Chris and Adrian's Visit: May 30/10

.

Adrian and Chris live in Waterloo and had not come to see us for a while, as Chris has had serious health problems.

They came to church and then we gathered with other family members in the party room in my Mum's condo bldg. My great-nephew, Bishop, had a little trouble posing for pictures.

Do Adrian & I talk with our hands?

"Halo" Cast & Crew Reunion: May 28/10

.

Several members of the cast and crew of Cambrian Players production of Halo (back in Nov. '09) got together at Kelsey's boyfriend's mother's place out among the sled dogs and noseeums.

The evening consisted of eating, scratching, singing, drinking, scratching, watching Kelsey feed the dogs, reminiscing, scratching, viewing Anne Carroll's wedding pictures and scratching.

Before the others arrived, Jay, Sara and Kelsey also went on a hike which involved getting lost and (no doubt) scratching.

Alan George Pepper, resident of Thunder Bay, died on Tuesday, 10th May, 2005 [five years ago today] in the TBRHSC as a result of the consequences of organ failure, resulting from diabetes.

Alan was born 21st June, 1933 in Balham, London, England, shortly thereafter moving to Mitcham, Surrey, England, where he lived until the age of 18, when he was called up for National Service with the Royal Fusiliers and the Royal Army Educational Corps. Prior to this he went to Mitcham County Grammar School in Mitcham and took his National Educational Certificate.

In 1949 he started working at the Merton and Morden Public Library, where he met Sheila, and worked in public libraries for the rest of his life. In 1963 he brought his family to Fort William, Canada and held various positions with what subsequently became the Ontario Library Service.

Part-time education had been a part of Alan's life since he first left school at 16. The professional courses of the (British) Library Association commenced before his immigration and he immediately began studying at Lakehead University, obtaining a B.A. in Psychology in 1972 and an Honours B.A. in Sociology in 1979.

Alan married Sheila (Griffiths) in 1955 and they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in September of this year.

Alan was predeceased by his parents, Frederick James and Winifred Mary in 1975 and 1969 respectively and by numerous uncles and aunts. He is survived by Sheila, sons, Adrian Roland David (Chris) in Waterloo and Richard Evelyn Paul (in town), daughter, Geraldine Elizabeth Anne Glisson (Byron) in Georgia, U.S. and grandchildren, Robin Anne, Derek Allan, Douglas Arthur, Gregory Earl, Beverly Elizabeth, Mitchell Edward and Clifford Austin Livingston and by sister, Margaret Anne Pratt(Robert) in Nottinghamshire, England as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alan's favourite occupation was Rotary International which he joined in 1967, holding many offices in the Fort William Rotary Club, becoming District Governor (District 5580) in 2001. Respecting Alan’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 1:00pm in the Church of Christ (corner Redwood and Edward Streets) officiated by Mr. Eric Bailey. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Rotary Foundation or charity of your choice.

The Pope's Choir Sings for the Masons (Shrine Circus) : May 7/10

I don't have a lot of photos of one of my major musical endeavours over the last three years, ie playing guitar for Mary Ellen Cain's choir at Pope John Paul II Separate School. However, these were taken when we sang "O Canada" for the Shrine Circus.

Note the bagpipes being tuned with an electronic tuner. Yes, they tune bagpipes.

As they entered I played along on my guitar: Bb Bb Bb Bb ....

(I actually do like bagpipes.)

We were introduced as Pope John Paul II *Public* School! Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

I am very grateful to Mary Ellen for giving me this (paid) opportunity to work with kids on music (and to perform "School's Out" for grad on the FW Gardens stage!!).

Ministers Lunch @ TBCS: May 7/10

.

As part of Christian Education Week, Thunder Bay Christian School invited church leaders to a lunch and tour of of the school. Since back in '83 - '85 I taught Gr. 7/8 English there, I like to get out there from time to time to see the place.

This used to be the classroom where I taught. However, it is now oriented to what used to be a side wall, and is now Gr. 5/6, I believe. This last photo is taken from what used to be the front. <

CBC Broadcast from the Griffon: May 4/10

.

In honour of the centennial of the Royal Canadian Navy, CBC's "The Great Northwest" broadcast from the HMCS Griffon (which is not an actual ship). As usual Brian Jones and I showed up c. 0600h, thereby winning CBC travel mugs (which don't fit in my car's cupholder however).

Breakfast and cake were served.

Sign Changed Too Late: Apr. 30/10

.
By the time Pinewood Court got Ruth's name added to the poster, she had pretty much wrapped up singing with me . On this date she and her bf were heading to Winnipeg to visit his ailing grandmother, and then she embarked on her summer of travels and work: Australia, Tennessee, Nunavut and who knows where else!

This is the last bit of the bread Ruth had baked and gave me (since was heading out of town).

See previous post for intro of Ruth.
