Hallowe'en 2008

.

I spent Hallowe'en at Leon and Jennifer's. Leon is a fellow Cambrian Players actor and producer. Most of the people there have been with Cambrian at some point; most in our current production "Romeo and Juliet" opening Nov. 20th.

In addition to snacking on eyeballs and such, I played WII for the first time. I was alright in Tennis and Baseball, but got smoked in Boxing.

I was a Jamaican zombie.

Finn-Tastic Sauna Commercial

.

Finn-Tastic Saunas had been running a series of ads at first featuring the Finnish Man, and later the Finnish Woman. The first one was "How to Take a Sauna", and initially had a voice-over, but when they viewed it without it, they realized that there should be no voices in any of their ads. They added my character in this episode.

Shortly thereafter, Finn-Tastic went out of business.

Teen Challenge: Oct. 26/08

.

Robby Ahuja and his team from Teen Challenge Thunder Bay were our special guest speakers at Northwood Park Church this past Sunday. Robby told us about the program and he, Brian and Dwayne told us about God's work in their lives, especially in connection with overcoming addictions.

I chose this sweater to wear not knowing that
Robby was going to give me a matching hat (and tshirt).

Dr. Suzuki "at" Lakehead University: Oct. 21/08

.

I was there when "the Doc" said he'd told Elizabeth May that there should be no Green Party. What a non-news news story!

Whether you agree with him or not re. enviro issues, his statement makes perfect sense. It's similar to what preachers, missionaries and camp leaders say about wanting to work themselves out of a job (although I suspect that they are usually lying).

MEMO Cuba Crate-Packing: Oct. 18/08

.

I helped out a bit at the MEMO Cuba (Medical Equipment Modernization Opportunity) crate-packing day. MEMO sends perfectly good (but non-digital) equipment discarded in Thunder Bay to rural hospitals in Cuba. (Then team members travel there and ensure that it is installed and that the personnel are trained.) The labour and equipment are donated, but each crate costs $9,000.00 to ship.

Dr. Harvey tests out the equipment.

Every available space is used in the crate.

MEMO Cuba Dinner: Oct. 17/08

.

Several of us attended the Dinner in support of MEMO Cuba (Medical Equipment Modernization Opportunity), associated with the Evangelical Free Church, which sends perfectly good (but non-digital) equipment discarded in Thunder Bay to rural hospitals in Cuba. (Then team members travel there and ensure that it is installed and that the personnel are trained.)

The labour and equipment are donated, but each crate costs $9,000.00 to ship.

Here are a few pictures from the crate-loading that took place the next day:

Song Writer Contest Oct. 3 & 5/08

Elliott Doxtater-Wynn of CBC Radio One played a couple of songs, including a cool one in Open C tuning.

Official picture from Les Henderson who ran the contest. Thank you, Les.

Okay, so my entry for the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge didn't win. I wonder where out of 15,000 I placed.

I didn't make the cut for the finals of the 3rd Annual Thunder Bay Song Writer Contest either (being held tonight).

Friday night I sang "Don't Be Afraid". I was happy with my performance. I'd transposed it down to E from G and I didn't mess up any chords or words. However, the voting was done 100% by the audience this time and, due to the lateness of my entry, I wasn't able to round up any friends.

Oh well, I met a couple of people and heard some good music. One audience member told me that she had voted for me.

Final Round: Oct. 5

Winner: Marley Giunta
(who was my bellydancer in a Murder Mystery in April)
and the runner-up: some beer-drinking country singer.

Caleb Joel Hawkins

(servant in "Romeo and Juliet")
