I Have Become Trivial: June 30/09

I was very surprised to see this in the June 30th edition of the "Chronicle-Journal" as part of their Canada Day quiz:

However, it certainly is flattering to be associated as a songwriter with Neil Young!!

Games Night at "Wurst" Baptist: June 27/09

.

The young adults played at the middle tables.

The old folks (and Ken and Rose) played Scrabble down at one end.

The kids (including me) played Dutch Blitz down at the other end.

Playing for the Pope: June 24/09

.
.
On June 24th I played on the Fort William Gardens stage for the Pope before a crowd of a couple of thousand people: Pope John Paul II ...

...the school, that is. Along with the choir and some student instrumentalists (plus Noah Cain, the ringer bass player) for their Grade 8 grad ceremony.

My favourite part of this gig was the medley accompanying the slideshow, comprising "Be True to Your School", "Fun Fun Fun" and ... "School's Out"!!!

So to restate I have now played Alice Cooper for the Pope in a stadium concert!!

Noah tunes up.

That's my sound man.

The crowd.

I didn't actually get pix of the performance, plus I'm probably not really supposed to publish pix of the students themselves.

Elizabeth May: June 22/09

On the spur of another moment (having heard about it on the 6 o'clock news) I went to hear Elizabeth May, National Leader of the Green Party at Lakehead University. She is on tour, I think, promoting her latest book Losing Confidence.

I found her quite interesting to listen to; she speaks well, without a lot of umming or ahing. She does ramble a bit, but some of the subject matter was obscure to me, and so I couldn't always follow her train of thought. OTOH she did also insert helpful explanations from time to time. I think I may have been the least politically astute person there.

When I asked her for a photo afterwards, she inquired as to whether I was a PoliSci student or prof. I told her I am a minister. In response to the predictable question re. denomination, I decided to reply "independent". I didn't want to get into all that.

I told her that she will be in my photo gallery of celebs, right next to Wendy Mesley.

Zombie Walk: June 20/09

.

On the spur of the moment I had the volunteers make me up and joined in the Zombie Walk as part of Harbourfest.

When I posted one of my self-portraits on Facebook, a friend commented, "Did you get new glasses?"

Cambrian Players at Thunder Bay Museum

We have a 60th Anniversary Exhibit for Cambrian Players at Thunder Bay Museum (the old police station on Donald St.).

Do consider going sometime. It is very well done. The other exhibits at the museum (including a full Albertasaurus fossil) are very interesting as well. Our exhibit will be there all summer.

My face actually appears in this display case (re. "The Hound of the Baskervilles").

Here's a close-up of where I appear:

Here is a better version.

Paul Ruebsam's BBQ: June 5/09

.

Paul Ruebsam and I have performed in several plays together now. These pix were taken from a BBQ at his house on June 5 to celebrate his graduating as a Personal Support Worker (the job he's had now for several years).

Here he is performing magic under his alias of Martin Wonderland.
