Doreen Hart

.
Early in Jan. '10 we found out that my Godmother, Doreen Hart, passed away in England c. Dec. 14/09. It's been decades since I last had contact, but I remember that she always sent me presents! I probably owed her quite a few thank you letters.

These pix were taken during our visit back to England in The Summer of '69 (when Bryan Adams and I were both 10. He was allegedly playing in a rock band and I was buying Matchbox toys in England).

Doreen's husband, Dennis. He died years ago.

Hey, I don't remember those two birds in miniskirts!

Behind them is a ditch and I do remembering rolling in it (wrestling with my brother?) and learning how nettles stings can be relieved (somewhat) with dock (?) leaves.

Childhood in Canada: The 60's TO DO

.

Our first house in Fort William on McGregor Ave., 1963/4.

These two are marked June 1964 on the front, and "MacGregor" on the back:

Photo was developed Feb. 1966.

Photo was developed August 1966.

My Dad's workplace: The NW Regional Library System, 910 Victoria Ave.
I worked there several part summers
(and the whole summer of 77 as the janitor).

Peppy, our first cat.
My Mum says this is Dusty, our 2nd.

Winter in 1968(?) at 400 Westbury.
The Volkswagen
(which I always pronounced the German way and still do)
was our first car.
The Valiant was our second.

The following pix can't be from before 1965 because of Churchill High in the background.
So it may be that the photo above is from the same winter. Any pix with the shed are more recent that those without.

The empty lot on the corner had a rink one winter.
When I was c. 10 I learned to skate there, taught by a mysterious older girl
who held my hand. I wonder who she was.

My Mum used to have a cooking segment on local TV.

1968? Shed is present. All have black dot on back.

It burned down years ago.
I think Dad took us along when he went there for business.

These photos (at the bluffs, and with the plane) were developed in Feb. 1966, and so they are probably from the Fall of 1965.

Photo was developed June 1966. That's Pinkyo beside me.

Photo was developed June 1966.

Developed in Sept. '66

Developed in Nov. '66; so taken between Sept. & Nov.

Akela

9 or 10 years old at Grey Wolf camp. I got homesick and cried there at night, because the leaders told us that Red River Cereal (which was served cold) was from the bottom of the Red River and they told ghost stories at night.

I was sure I so the shadow of the hunchback outside the tent. I wonder if it was a prank. ha

Now I like both RR Cereal AND ghost stories (but not pranks).

I remember being told that the guy in front of me was the shortest Wolf Cub in the world. Based on what the leaders told us about RR Cereal and ghosts, I'm inclined to be suspicious.

I'm trying to figure out why some of these pix won't open. They ARE there.

Apple Day.
I remember hating Apple Day.
I'm not cut out for door-to-door sales.

My Apple Day basket. Yay.

Dweeb. Dweeb. Dweeb.

The first Christmas tree I remember, made of silver aluminum. Mid 60's.

I think these are from Christmas 1967. Geri's annual seems to say 1968, and we look the right age for 1967,
when I compare with school pictures.

1960s: 127 South Brodie St. Much later when it was Hull's Family Bookstore, I lived in the apartment above:

These need to be sorted:
