LUCF Retreat Jan. 26 - 28/07

.

I just went out for the day to see how things were going and to visit with the guest speaker, Thaddeus, Senior Director of Program (formerly Boys Camp Director) at Manitoba Pioneer Camp

While there I taught the girls to sing the Blues.

As well, I performed my song, "Anglo Saxon", as part of their coffeehouse. Then I proceeded to try to drive home down the wrong road. I got stuck in the snow and was pushed out by a dozen or so LUCFers who insisted on posing for a picture with my car.

Held at Round Lake Bible Camp.

So-called "life-sized" Jenga.

Looking down on the lake from the mountain.

Dream

I haven't seen Kristian for over two weeks, but last night I dreamed that I held him in my hand. He had his current toddler facial features and proportions, but he was so small that he fit there in my palm. He was quiet and simply stared up at me with his little pursed lips Mona Lisa smile.

Besides his size, the other strange element in the dream was that he was made of something like rice paper, like a a dried leaf: so fragile that I was afraid I would crush him.

Reply to Mike Hald

"Richard... been alot of years... i linked to ur blog through peter james's and started browsing and checking out all of ur old pics and such went to http://www.psw.ca/rpepper/dorion/dorionbiblecamp3.html
brought back some good memories.. what ever happened with the rest of the guys from the allstars92.jpg ?? that was a good year thanks for keeping the memories posted...
but id like to thank you for keeping sites like this up they are great to reflect on, and bring back some pretty good memories.
Thanks
Mike Hald"

The last I heard Marvin was in Regina. Tim had a skiing accident which drastically changed his life. I know he was in treatment in Texas for a while, but I don't think he's there anymore. Mark Stewart, your leader, returned to the Soo area and farming, but now has been accepted back with CSSM part-time at Galilean Bible Camp.

The bulk of my work on the Dorion Bible Camp photos was done while I was still working there. They remained up for a while after my departure, but I don't know why the new site does not use them.

My Limericks for CBC

I don't think they've aired them yet.

The fine hockey team from Keewatin-
Norman-Rat-Portage went skatin'
A cent'ry ago
They won, don't you know,
And Kenora is STILL celebratin'.

In Thunder Bay we think we're manly.
We've won hockey trophies quite hand'ly.
Champagne by the gallon
From the cup called the Allan,
But Kenora has drunk from the Stanley.
--------------------

I didn't send this one in. I don't think they'd read it, plus it's just a rhyme-driven dumb joke:

In Kenora my friend Eric Bailey
His Thistles ballcap puts on daily.
It makes him feel manly
Because they won Stanley.
Now he's as manly as Hayley.
---------------------
Jan. 22/07 Lisa read the first limerick this morning and described me as their "old friend". The winner of the jersey is from Kenora.

Just thought I'd upload this after all these years

Maybe it was the cover version of "These Eyes" I heard this morning that reminded me.

Mike Hurlbert got this for me at a Jets game.

Anglican DYU Visits Schreiber: Jan. 14/07

Recent pix

Doug Jr.'s birthday party on Jan. 7 (for the 8th). I think my Mum is singing "you" at this point.

My Mum sold my Dad's truck and they took it away on Saturday. It came within a foot of the back end of my car, as they hauled it from the space it has occupied unmoved for at least three years.

Members of the Deanery Youth Unit posing with Rev. Joan Cavanaugh-Clark in the basement of St. John's the Evangelist in Schreiber this past Sunday. Then we headed home with a stop for lunch and creamer-flipping at the Nipigon Husky (same table I used to occupy with the Dorion office gang on Friday nights).

Kozy Korner Junior Week Dorion Bible Camp 1976

So, I did have this pic on my computer all along, but I don't seem to have uploaded it anywhere.

I was the "Junior Counsellor". The "Counsellor" was Bob Heinrichs. I have worked with his son at Manitoba Pioneer Camp for the last three summers. Bob is Piper at MPC and his son is Buck-O. In fact, I met "Buck-O" when he was in utero: Bob and Mavis stopped by Dorion one day and she was pregnant with him. I didn't realize this until the end of my second summer (week) at MPC.

Back row: Bob, Roland Poster, Clinton Kraft (mostly recently I heard he had taught Art at Hamm), Danny Fugelsang, ??, RP.
Middle: Randy Walberg
Front: John Poster, Shawn Friesen.

I can't remember ?? right now, but I can probably find it in my diary or someplace FWIW.

Thanks, Shroom (aka Shrom)

Yes, it must have been the cape thing for me, too. But I do like wearing my Darth Vader cape -- which is dark. So I should have said "Yes, I do have a dark personality." (Does it surprise you that I said "no"?)

Note that I am even more Catwoman than Shroom. (Jan. 4/07)

I am not a looser.

I used that spelling for Shrom's sake.

I won this hat today from CBC Radio 1 in the hockey trivia quiz (a.k.a. Google Skills Competition). The question was

"Which NHL rule change made this season was intended to increase scoring chances?"

Ans.: the increase in stick curve from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch (which should be done in metric IMO).

I should mention that I ran my answer past timlap in order confirm my Google findings. He is smarter than the Internet.

Note too that I have fixed the links on my Christmas letter below. In fact, I think I never had them right.

Forty candles are a lot of work.

Two out of three witty captions ain't bad.

Columbo is my hero.

I recently watched all the episodes of the first season of Columbo (and then I watched all of the 2nd season of Corner Gas).

At one point Columbo says (to the guilty party whom he is hounding, of course), "Little things bother me, little insignificant details. I lose my appetite...My wife says, 'You can be a pain.'"

I suppose one could say that the stakes in trying to solve a murder are very high, thereby raising the importance of details, but are the stakes not also high in trying to run a church, a ministry, a camp?
-------------
My brother just pointed out that the links in my Dec. Christmas letter have been changed by blogger and are now dead. They are supposed to point to the appropriate month on my activities menu page at richardpepper.ca. I will fix them soon.

Or possibly they were wrong all along and my brother is the only one who ever noticed.

New Year's Eve at Lappalas'

.

We rounded off the evening with a four on four match (ladies vs. gents) of Charades. The ladies clobbered us.

Highlights: My nephew Doug's version of "Sexy Back" and my Mum's successful communication of "My Humps". Oh, yes, mimlap's "Dick Cheney" was interesting, too.

"Have a drink, Johnny."
"No, thanks. I'm already having a ball."

"Ha ha ha! Kids are so cute!"

WOW offline: What will they think of next?

Kristian has mastered chair-wrestling.

"Aw, Mommy! Read the shirt!"
